Starting a business is a complex and risky undertaking. If you have not done it before, the question “How do you start a business?” can be daunting and it can be difficult to know where to start.  This part of my blog aims to help you find out how to start a business.  To kick start this process I have written a post discussing the importance of understanding the business lifecycle.

You need to ask yourself some key questions first:

  • Why start a business?
  • Which business to start?
  • Where to start a business?
  • Where do I get business ideas from?
  • Should I start up a business or buy one?
  • Should I start a company?

I have set out below the Six Minute Strategist Guide on How to Start a business.  If there is a link attached I have written a more expansive post on it.  If not, then I will in future.

The Six Component Parts to Starting a Business can be summarised as:

1. Strategy and Objectives: I have written a two part blog post on this subject.  You can find Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

2. Market Analysis

I posted a discussion highlighting “Six Major Technology Trends to Watch“.

3. Business Planning

In an Eye Piece I reviewed excellent book on business planning entitled Business Model Generation, which is an excellent place to start if you are planning a start up.

4. Funding

5. Team

6. Execution

I wrote a piece discussing “Why do Startups fail?” which might be helpful.

I have covered some of these in a blog Post – How to turn your GREAT IDEA into a BUSINESS.  I also posted this as a Six Minute Strategist Pencast if you would like to listen to a brief presentation.

This section aims to work through Start Up issues and challenges while maintaining the Six Minute Strategist Framework to ensure that the process is structured and coherent.
