If you are new to Blogging, WordPress or just setting up your own website, it can be very daunting.  However, the good news is that it does not have to be.  This page will guide you through the process showing you where to go and learn from (mostly) free resources that I have found out on the internet.  There is a plethora of free information out there if you know where to go and what to search for.  On this page, I have tried to short cut this process for you.

Let me be open with you.  Some of the links here are affiliate links – I will make them clear by putting (AL) after the link.  They will either take you to sites with great free content and the option of signing up for something you pay for (I stress your option) or to a site where, in my view, you need to pay for the tool or software being offered.  However, the option is entirely yours and if you open a fresh page and Google the item you can bypass the affiliate link if you so wish.  This is about information not monetization.

Getting Started

Domain Names

While it is possible to set up a free site (goto to WordPress.com), my advice is to get your own domain name and have this hosted.  There are a number of restrictions on the free sites but most importantly you want to own and control your home on the net.

The first step is to decide on your domain name and go and see if it is available. I would recommend you try to register a .com or a .net name (or perhaps .co.uk if in the UK) and add a small prefix or suffix like “My” or “HQ” or “Pro” to get the .com.

This video on you tube by Ken Appleby explains how to register a Domain.  Ken also has two more videos on how then to host your website with GoDaddy: Part 1 is here and Part 2 is here.   If you want to go over to GoDaddy.com  to get started you can click on this link here (AL).

Let me introduce you to Chris Farrell.  He has a membership site with masses of information and videos.  However, he also gives away great content too.  I would strongly recommend you go over to his site and check out his free video course.  Let me stress, I want you to benefit from his free content.  If you subsequently decide to sign up for his membership site, I will get a commission but getting the benefit of his free information is what this is all about.
