As part of the evolution of the Six Minute Strategist site, my focus on Social Media has turned to producing content for Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs to help you use the internet for your own Online Marketing.

Understanding the Ecosystem
- I started out by asking the key Question – Social Media – what does it all mean?
- I have published two Blog posts on the Social Media Ecosystem, I have categorised the Ecosystem in terms of the social processes involved. There is a second level of activity which is shown in the Six Minute Strategist Magic Hexagon diagram here.
- These lead to a series of posts which set out over 600 different social media sites: the categories are, communication, collaboration/authority, multi-media, brand monitoring, virtual worlds, search and other.
- I have set out a broad overview of a social media strategy in my post – What on earth are you doing online?
- I started out by trying to explain a strategic approach to Social Media in this post entitled PLEASE – how do I make sense of the Social Web?
- I posted a blog post describing the competition among the 6 largest technology players in the online and offline world – Who is winning the War of the Worlds
- In an Eye Piece I highlighted the current patent wars going on in the smartphone market, with a great info graphic showing who is suing whom
Marketing Strategy
- This blog post sets out the key steps in preparing a Social Media Strategy.
- The blog post addressed the theme of how to start Engaging with Social Media
- In this post I applied the Six Minute Strategist method to Executing a Social Media Strategy.
- I reflected on the importance of Applications in this post.
Website Design and SEO
- One of the most important aspects of Social Media is Search Engine Optimisation. There is a fun short Quiz on SEO.
- I subsequently posted a blog entitled How to speak SEO? The New Language of Business.
Using Social Media Networks
- To get you started I set out “How to Structure a Social Media Strategy in Six Minutes“
- This blog post introduces six ways you can start to engage with Social Media and how to find information on the web.
- In this post, I discuss the Six Ps of Planning a Social Media strategy.
- This blog post introduces a book that tells you how to get the most out of LinkedIn
- I wrote a post discussing content farms entitled “Demand Media – Excellence or Exuberence” as I am unconvinced that they are the way forward.
- With all the economic problems in the world, I set out a scenario of an alternative reserve currency based on Facebook.
- In this blog post, I reflected on how a new generation are using the social web and its likely business impact.
How to get Started on Line
- There is a whole section of this subject which relates to the “How to…” of engaging online. I have started to curate some useful sites and resources in this section of the website here.
